Research in Nursing Career

In development and progress of nursing profession, research plays an important role and given more importance in solving problems or obstacles in the administration and management. It is a quest for new knowledge, where scientific process is applied. Problem solving is systematic technique to the solution, be it simple or complex. The aim of nursing is to provide effective nursing care, which requires broad knowledge based on promoting human health, aided by specialist areas of health care practice which is developed through research in required areas. 


The center of research is always human being. The Nursing Research is two folds for the nursing profession which helps to strengthen the nursing profession, which practices the data or knowledge to improve the quality of nursing practice, gives new direction to the practice of nursing care, enhances the image of nursing administration, combines the art and science of nursing with the administration plays the role of decision-maker and the members of administrative team.
Definition and meaning of Research :
There are so many definitions of research. According to Abdulla and Lowine, "Research essentially is an activity whose purpose is to find out a valid answer to some questions that has been raised" and to French Ruth M. it is, "essentially a problem- solving process, a systematic, intensive study directed towards full, scientific knowledge of the subject studied.
The definition clearly explains that research is a systematic and objective analysis of controlled observation, which may lead to the development of generalization, theories, resulting in prediction and ultimate control of events. It is the studying of a problem in pursuit of investigating the cause and solution to solve the problem, by use of accepted method, analysis, statistical procedures.
Characteristics of Research :
1) Research directs towards the solution of a problem. 
2) Research is based on observed experience or empirical evidence. 
3) Research emphasizes the development of generalizations of principles or theories. 
4) Research demands accurate observation and description. 
5) Research carefully designed. 
6) Research requires expertise.
 7) Research involves gathering new data from primary handsource to new purpose. 
8) Research characterized by patient and unhurried activity.
 9) Research involves quest for answers to unsolved problems. 
10) Research carefully recorded and reported. 
11) Research sometimes requires courage.
